Microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC) was a persistent maintenance issue for Miami-Dade (Fla.) Water and Sewer Department (MDWASD). "We spent a lot of money repairing corrosion," says associate director John Chorlog, P.E. "Over the 20 years, MIC has cost us hundreds of millions of dollars."
